The Canadian Ministry of Defence called on
Gemco's wholly owned subsidiary Firstline
Environmental Solutions Inc. and the
"Processor/Concentrator" technology to
assist them with the clean up of contaminated
soil at a military base in Chilliwack, British
Columbia, Canada. Firstline was able to meet all
the requirements set out for them, removing lead
bullets or slugs & lead and copper fines to 300
ppm as well as brass casings in accordance with
established guidelines.
From their own
estimates a minimum of $261,000 savings was
realized through the use of Firstline and their
technology.
The Centrifuge Processor is a
highly mobile and self contained unit that can
be positioned on site and readily operational.
The equipment is designed to extract heavy and
fine metals from large volumes of raw earth and
materials. The raw materials such as, soil,
gravel and aggregates are conveyored into the
hoppers and fed into the processor by
mechanically setting the gravity forces in the
patented centrifugal chambers. Through its
separation process, the equipment allows only
one half of an inch mined material to its
revolving scrubbers. The material is mixed with
water and broken down into a thin slurry. This
passes through the concentrator chambers at
preset accelerated “G” forces, thus lifting the
light waste materials to flow and discharge from
the processor chambers by way of floatation. The
heavy metals are retained in the bottom of the
chambers and later removed by conventional
means. The water consumption is preserved by
re-circulating it through filtration systems for
continual processing. The
machine was originally designed for the
extraction of heavy metals in the mining
industry such as gold and silver. It has also
been modified for general purpose use such as
cleaning heavy metals from contaminated soil,
whereby saving companies thousands of dollars
over the conventional method (in the
conventional “haul and dump method” the
contaminated material id loaded and dumping
elsewhere without cleaning, and the soil then
needs to be replaced with new fill). Through
Firstline’s Centrifuge Processor system, the
contaminated material is cleaned and recycled on
site requiring only a small portion of the
material to hauled away being the heavy metals,
thus leaving the site free of contaminates thus
reaping substantial savings and quicker
turnaround time for the land owner. |
